Erika is a ceramic artist currently living in Lawrence, Kansas. Her ceramic practice starts with a fascination of the multifaceted nature of clay as she utilizes various techniques including the potters wheel, hand-building, and slip casting. Each piece is made by hand, and is a meditative process exploring the intricacies of utility, the ornate, and intimacy. The hand painted surfaces and forms create a tactile narrative, blurring the lines between traditional painting and pottery, drawing inspiration from gender, domesticity, memory, and nature. Her artistry is a reclamation of space, where femininity is celebrated as both delicate and resilient. Her work joins the decorative and functional, and invites you to pause and contemplate the subtle beauty of domestic objects, encouraging a deeper connection to the items we use daily.
Erika studied ceramics at the Kansas City Art Institute, and has been a resident artist at the International Ceramics Studio in Kecskemet, Hungary.
